ABOUT ME

 

Hi, My name is Kristen.
 

My background is in marine biology. And I have been extremely lucky to be able to live my dream. I've worked on dolphin health and population research and studied techniques and theories of marine mammal training. I've worked with polar bears, penguins, walruses, dolphins, whales, sea lions, and sea turtles. And, while marine life is still a big part of my life and always will be, I have finally been able to devote more time to my shop. I have always loved art and creating things. But, it wasn't until a few years ago that I decided to make a business of it. 

My Dad was an amazing artist. I remember watching him create things at our kitchen table. He loved native american culture. He would paint large shields and and portraits of indians on horses. He even made an entire outfit once. Stitched it all himself. -- I have one of his old paintings in my art room and will always treasure it and the person that he was. I feel so lucky that I have gained at least a small portion of his artistic abilities. And I hope he's looking down on me and feels proud. 

The White Birch Tree was founded in December of 2012. I began small with just a few crocheted scarves. I have now added crocheted baby outfits, photo props, and focused the majority of my business on nursery mobiles. I hope to continually grow in my inventory, designs, and imagination. 

 

All of the items at The White Birch Tree are hand-made by me.  I cut, stitch, stuff, and string everything by hand.    

 

I use wool blend and eco-friendly 100% merino wool for all of my mobiles.  Each crystal teardrop and bead is made of genuine glass.  

 

I love hand-making these items and I put a lot of time and love into each one. I can only hope that my customers enjoy my ideas as much as I enjoy making them. :o)
